The Andrews Labor Government has transformed Mount Clay State Forest just in time for spring camping.
Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora visited the upgraded Sawpit Campground which has been reconfigured to improve access and accommodate additional campers over peak periods.
Camping sites have been defined with landscaping using boulders and raised garden beds, while extra firepits and an additional toilet block have been installed to cater for the additional sites.
The day visitor area has been renewed to provide better linkages to the Mount Clay Mountain Bike Trail and Whalers Lookout Walk.
Public consultation on the new campground design was received in April 2021, with community feedback used to inform decision-making on aspects including site layout, facilities and accessibility.
All areas of the campground will be open to the public from Friday 1 September 2023.
Victoria’s Great Outdoors is boosting regional tourism and making it easier for Victorians to access and enjoy nature by investing $106.6 million in better walking trails, campgrounds, four-wheel drive tracks and visitor facilities.
