It’s game on for Horsham’s netballers, with the completion of new netball courts with lighting to provide more space for training, competitions and events, thanks to support from the Allan Labor Government.

Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora today officially opened the City Oval netball courts, made possible by a $800,000 investment from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The two new courts feature 200 lux LED lighting, bringing the reserve’s court facilities in line with Netball Victoria competition standards.

They are also a game-changer for the Horsham Demons Football Netball Club and local district netball providing the perfect venue for training, local development programs and competition.

The Victorian Government investment is also backing the Horsham City Oval netball pavilion upgrades, with works expected to start later this year and include the development of new player and umpire change rooms, accessible amenities, social space, medical room, administration area and storage.

The new netball facilities are backed by the release of government’s Fair Access Policy Roadmap aimed at ensuring women and girls get equal access to community sport facilities across the state.

The Victorian Budget 2023/24 has kicked in more than $213 million to deliver and improve community sports infrastructure and support initiatives that boost participation and inclusion in local sports clubs and organisations.

This brings the Victorian Government’s investment into community sport and active recreation infrastructure to more than $1.9 billion over the past decade.

Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, levelling the playing field and improving the health, wellbeing and social outcomes for Victorian communities.

Jacinta Ermacora MP acknowledged Horsham Rural City Council for its more than $2.4 million financial contribution and commitment to delivering the project.
